OryCon! … and Victorian lace

Le_Voyage_dans_la_lune    Yeehaw! Scheduled panel appearances for Portland’s own OryCon happening November 8 – 10, 2013! Please come join me for any of the fine events listed below, especially the reading on Sunday morning! When I’ll be all by my lonesome! Except you’ll be there! For those planning to make it to the costuming panel on Saturday, I’ll bring a grab bag of freebie goodies gleaned from my own personal collection of shredded lace, vintage costuming details, antique ribbon, and embroidered linen for you to take off my hands and make into your own lovely outfits and craft projects. Antique lace ruffle cuffs for all!

Camille Alexa at ORYCON 2013:

Getting Your First Professional Sale   [Morrison, Fri Nov 8 2:00pm-3:00pm]

An author can struggle for months or years before achieving their first success, but even after writing their opus, they can be tripped up by a process which is both entirely new to them and yet critical to their success. This panel describes what an author may experience as they revel in their first success.

Space Colonies the Ultimate Gated Communities   [Alaska, Fri Nov 8 3:00pm-4:00pm]
At $200,000 a condo, one could raise about $40 billion to make a 200,000 person O’Neill space colony. The technology might be possible soon. Any takers?

Budget Costuming    [Sellwood, Sat Nov 9 10:00am-11:00am]
Costuming on the cheap. Cheap sources; cheap materials that don’t look it; techniques that make inexpensive materials look fabulous.

The Marketing of Historical Fiction   [Madison, Sat Nov 9 4:00pm-5:00pm]
Does it only sell as romance and mainstream? How might historical fiction be made appealing to a broader audience?

Camille Alexa Reading   [Grant room,  Sun Nov 10 10:00am-10:30am]    Camille Alexa reads from her own works

Short Stories, Novelettes and Novellas, and The Markets Who Love Them   [Madison, Sun Nov 10 12:00pm-1:00pm]
Yes! There are markets out there for shorter fiction!

As always, all and sundry are heartily encouraged to come say hello at any time.  If you miss me on panel and really, really can’t come to my Sunday reading, look for me in the hotel bar.
